Effect of Applying Fosin Dressing Versus Zinc Oxide Moist Dressing on the Healing of Third-Degree Burns

Burns represent a major health concern affecting both adults and children. Superficial burns involve only the epidermis and upper dermis, whereas deep or full‑thickness burns extend into deeper dermal layers and may damage blood vessels and nerves. The primary goals of burn management are infection control, acceleration of wound healing, and achieving optimal cosmetic outcomes. To meet these goals, various modern burn‑care products are used in clinical practice. Third‑degree burn infections are particularly problematic, as they delay healing, prolong hospitalization, and increase treatment costs.
This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of Fosin dressing compared with zinc oxide–moistened dressing in healing third‑degree burns. A quasi‑experimental design was applied at Latakia University Hospital in the reconstructive surgery department between January 2 and April 2, 2026, using a sample of 60 patients admitted during the study period. Data were collected After applying the two dressings separately to 30 patients for 15 days and analyzed statistically using SPSS. Results indicated that patients treated with zinc oxide dressing showed better healing outcomes than those treated with Fucidin, particularly when assessed on the tenth and fifteenth days. These findings highlight the importance of adopting zinc oxide dressings in burn units and support the need for further research on their role in improving diabetic foot wounds.
