Effect of Applying Peer Modeling via Video on Communication Skills in Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a developmental disability that significantly affects communication in affected children. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of video peer modeling on communication skills in children with ASD. Materials and Methods: and Methods: Using a quasi-experimental approach, the study was applied to a sample of 20 children with ASD at the Autism Association in Latakia and at the Wahat Al Farah Center in Koura, North Lebanon. Video peer modeling training was applied at a rate of four weekly sessions repeated over three months for each child. Data were collected using a tool that included: demographic and social data of the child, and a communication skills scale consisting of (52) statements. Results: showed: The presence of statistically significant differences, both important and very important communication skills between the pre- and post-tests in favor of the post-test (p<0.05), without any improvement in non-verbal communication skills. The study recommended that specialists develop integrated programs based on peer modeling to help develop communication skills in children with autism spectrum disorder, and that parents be involved in training seminars.
