The Levantine migration to Egypt between the years (1850-1900 AD) (The causes and economic consequences)
Abstract
During the nineteenth century, the Levant witnessed large migrations of the people of the Levant abroad, and this matter is related to internal factors in the Levant, which is the country from which the emigrant is, represented by the political and religious crises, and the accompanying deterioration of the economic and social conditions in the region. On the political level, the lack of security and stability, as a result of The policy of the Ottoman rulers based on oppression and tyranny. On the religious level: sectarian tensions contributed to perpetuating the policy of societal division, as a result of the members of one sect gathering together, and this led to religious sensitivities and the emergence of several sectarian problems. On the economic level: the decline in the living conditions of the population and the loss of many of the requirements of life.
This bitter reality led to the emigration of a large number of people of the Levant towards various countries of the world, and one of those destinations was Egypt, which witnessed during the nineteenth century, and with Muhammad Ali and his family assuming power after him, a state of political, economic and social stability, and thus the country experienced a comprehensive renaissance over the years. At all levels, and with the settlement of these immigrants in Egypt, they began their various activities in an attempt to integrate into the Egyptian society, and this matter had an important role in pushing these immigrants to work in various economic activities, leading to achieving great successes that contributed to the renaissance of Egyptian society.
