Complications Of Ureteroscopy: A study in Tishreen University Hospital (1/8/2020-1/8/2021)
Abstract
Objective: The study aims to determine the incidence of complications during or after ureteroscopy and to determine the most important risk factors associated with the occurrence of complications in patients who underwent ureteroscopy.
Methods: This study is a prospective observational study in which 116 patients who underwent ureteroscopy during the period from 1-8-2020 to 1-8-2021 at Tishreen University Hospital in Lattakia were studied. The incidence of complications during ureteroscopy, near and far, was studied. And the prognostic factors associated with their occurrence, analysis and presentation of the results
Results: The percentage of complications that occurred during ureteroscopy was (21.55%) distributed as follows (abrasion 12.06% - false passage 4.3% - hemorrhage 1,72% - mucosal perforation 2.58% - ureteral avulsions 0.86%).
The frequency of complications during ureteroscopy was associated with a single factor, ureteroscopy due to ureteral stones
The percentage of complications that occurred in the close follow-up period after ureteroscopy was (12.1%) and were distributed as follows (sepsis 4.3% - renal colic 3.4% - hematuria 1.7% - catheter migration 2.5%). ureteroscopy reduced the rate of complications in this stage. The percentage of complications in the distant follow-up period was (6.9%) and were distributed as follows (ureteral stenosis 4.3% - Pyelonephritis 2.5% - Vesicoureteral reflux 0%) and the occurrence of complications was not associated with the occurrence of complications). At this stage, any prognostic factors could be statistically proven to be related
Conclusions: After analyzing the statistical results and extracting the prognostic factors, it was found that ureteroscopy is a safe procedure, and the percentage of complications that occur during or after its procedure are few and are not related to the patient’s age or gender, but there is a correlation between the occurrence of complications during ureteroscopy in patients with ureteral stone
