Background: cesarean section it may put mothers and their neonates at risk .
Aim: The purpose of the current study was to detect the effect of mechanical cervical dilation during selective CS on maternal morbidity represented by postoperative pain and wound infection.
Materials and Methods the study included of 100 primigravida women meeting inclusion criteria, admitted at the department of obstetrics and gynecology , Lattakia University Hospital, during (2023-2025) who underwent selective CS. Women were divided equally into two groups according to performance of mechanical cervical dilation with comparison of maternal morbidity after delivery between two groups.
Results: There were no significant differences between two groups regarding of age, gestational age and body mass index(BMI), p>0.05. The mean score for the severity of pain was 4.24±1.4 in cervical dilation group versus 6.58±1.1 in other group with presence of significant differences,p:0.0001.
In addition to, wound infection was detected in 3 cases(6%) in cervical dilation group versus 7 cases(14%) in other group, but without significant statistical differences,p:0.1.
