The Effect of Adding Aloe Vera to at-home Bleaching Material on Tooth Sensitivity (Clinical Study)

Abstract

Background: Many methods of teeth bleaching, types and materials with numerous concentrations are used in cosmetic dentistry. Also, there are various methods for reducing tooth sensitivity.

Objective: The study aimed to investigate the effect of adding the aloe vera gel to in- home bleaching agent in reducing teeth sensitivity. Methods: The study was conducted on twenty young patients. the bleaching material alone was applied to the halves of the right upper jaw, and the second group aloe vera gel was added to the same material and applied on the left halves of upper jaws of the same patient. The two materials were applied in home bleaching trays for an hour daily before bedtime (15 days). Tooth sensitivity was evaluated (1- there is tooth sensitivity, 2- no tooth sensitivity).Results: samples that were subjected to aloe vera with carbamide peroxide showed less sensitivity than samples which was treated with carbamide peroxide only. Conclusion: Adding aloe vera to the bleaching material reduced tooth sensitivity.
