Light sandwich panels are increasingly employed in engineering facilities because of their high acoustic and thermal insulation, in addition to adapting its construction investment as elements of fast construction according to the materials used and production technology to work as walls and plates carrier internal and external, where they are able to receive the loading systems to which the facility is subjected of normal service loads, wind and snow and transport them via secondary beams to the other major carriers in the required facility.
Structural adaptation of these elements requires adequate knowledge of the behavior mechanism and mechanical properties of its materials to conduct the appropriate structural analysis of the maximum load limits which can be applied to this elements to prevent the risks of collapse, whether by shearing their core or wrinkling and buckling their face according to the structural system formed and the nature of loads affecting them, especially those properties related to core material, which often consists of foam rigid material adhered to the two thin steel faces.
Polyurethane PUR is one of the most used materials as filling to the locally produced sandwich panels with two faces of high- strength steel panels.
This paper seeks to introduce the tension testing system of the core sandwich panel and its adhesion to the face layer, and to derive empirically the standard core modulus of elasticity on tension and associated diagonal of strain-stress using an experimental apparatus specifically designed to test such material of locally produced sandwich panels with core of polyurethane, and generalization of its findings to form a basic database to analyze and design the components of the panels.
