Abstract

The research mainly studies one of the most important aspects of smart housing design, which is the smart interior architectural space, and how to apply it in housing in Syria and in the city of Aleppo in particular, in order to solve the problem of small residential spaces and small apartment spaces that have resulted from the current circumstances in Syria as a result of the weak financial capabilities of individuals and the high cost of housing. The main research problem stems from the lack of design and technical foundations for integrating intelligence into the small residential interior space in order to improve it functionally and spatially, as current housing in Syria suffers from small spaces and the weak ability of the interior space to accommodate residential functions, which made these designs insufficient and unable to achieve the residential functions of users in an appropriate manner.

The research aims to transform small housing from a functional housing problem into a solution and a social need, as the research determined that the small residential space in itself is a problem from a functional point of view, but it is a need from an economic point of view that is compatible with the limited financial capabilities of individuals.

After studying global experiences and models from the city of Aleppo and transforming them into smart homes, the research concluded that integrating smart design into the interior space greatly improves the ability of the interior residential space to accommodate missing residential functions through the design of movable furniture that allows one space to perform more than one function and thus doubles the area of the residential apartment, sometimes even tripling it. The research proposed a model for a smart residential unit with a small smart interior space of about 50 m2 that can be used to localize smart homes in Syria in general and in Aleppo in particular. Based on this, the research recommends the necessity of adopting the foundations of smart interior space and movable furniture as a basic means of improving the functional performance of the interior space of homes.
