The Role Of Foreign Trade In Supporting Economic Reconstruction Policies In Syria

Abstract

The research aimed to identify the role of foreign trade in supporting economic reconstruction policies in Syria, by studying foreign trade with its indicators (trade openness index, transit index, temporary entry index, balance of payments index) and its impact on economic reconstruction policies (economic growth rate, investment growth rate). The research relied on the descriptive analytical approach, and the time series from 1985-2020 was studied, based on official data provided by the World Bank and the Syrian Statistical Group.

The research reached a set of results, the most important of which are:

⮚ The independent variable represented by (trade openness growth rate and temporary openness rate) does not have a significant effect on (economic growth rate).

⮚ The independent variable represented by (transit growth rate) has a significant effect on (economic growth rate) and the effect is direct.

⮚The independent variable represented by (the growth rate of the balance of payments deficit.) has a significant effect on (the economic growth rate) and the effect is inverse.

⮚The independent variable represented by (the growth rate of trade openness, the growth rate of temporary entry, the growth rate of the balance of payments deficit) does not have a significant effect on (the investment growth rate).

⮚The independent variable represented by (the growth rate of transit) has a significant effect on (the investment growth rate) and the effect is direct.
