Simile imagery in motherhood scenes in Umayyad Poetry (Selected Models)
Keywords:
Simile imagery, motherhood, Umayyad Poetry.Abstract
This research examines the artistic image represented by simile in scenes of motherhood in Umayyad poetry, and highlights their significance and capacity for influence and imagination. The Umayyad poets, in depicting maternal scenes—whether in humans, animals, or birds—carefully chose suggestive expressions that affirm the sincerity of this emotion and the overflowing feelings from the mother's heart toward her young. They employed these images artistically to express their emotions, lived experiences, and observations of nature. The similes convey the depth of the Umayyad poet's artistic experience and his skill in shaping poetic images that reveal humanity's striving for spiritual balance by reclaiming a time of abundance and the elements of motherhood, along with a keen determination to establish them. Through these images, the poet intensifies feelings of anxiety and apprehension by carefully selecting words and structures that reveal his constant fear of fate's vicissitudes.
The research adopts the descriptive method, which entails surveying, collecting, analyzing, and processing scholarly material to reach conclusions derived from the studied texts, while also drawing on the tools of the psychological method when necessary.
