Cognitive distortions among secondary school students in the city of Latakia

The research aimed to identify the prevailing cognitive distortions among secondary school students in the city of Latakia, as well as to identify the differences in their cognitive distortions according to the variables of gender and birth order.
The research sample was selected by the stratified random method and had a total of The research sample was selected by the cluster random method and had a total of 375 students, including 186 male and 189 female students, distributed in the first and second year of secondary school. To achieve the research objectives, the researcher adopted the descriptive method, and used the cognitive distortions scale prepared by Al-Alawi in 2013, which consisted of (35) items.
The research showed the following results: The prevailing cognitive distortions among secondary school students in the city of Latakia, which were of moderate degree, are (Polarized thinking - Magnification or Minimisation - Should or Must), and the cognitive distortion (Should or Must) came in first place in terms of the degree of presence with a weight Relative to (71.84%), There was no statistically significant difference in cognitive distortions among members of the research sample according to the gender variable, while statistically significant differences were found in cognitive distortions among members of the research sample according to the birth order variable in favor of middle, followed by small.
