The Role of Syrian Women in Enhancing Family Economic and Social Security

A field study on a sample of rural women in the Jableh countryside

Abstract

This research addresses the vital role of rural women in the countryside of Jableh, Syria, highlighting their contribution to enhancing the economic and social security of the family. Employing a descriptive-analytical methodology and field interviews, the findings reveal that rural women are fundamental economic actors and an essential source of stability for their families.

Despite this pivotal role, women face significant challenges that hinder their empowerment, most notably social barriers and difficulty in accessing resources. The study also revealed that government development programs targeted at them are often ineffective or fail to reach their intended recipients. It was found that factors such as education and income directly influence the degree of women's empowerment.

The research concludes that the empowerment of rural women is not merely a developmental option but a civilizational necessity. It recommends supporting small-scale projects, improving access to essential services, and involving women in the formulation of policies that concern them.
