Abstract

The phenomenon of (Iltifat) (diversion/grammatical shift) is one of the rhetorical phenomena that embellish the text and enrich discourse. It represents a shift from one style to another and from one pronoun to another. Writers and poets have exploited this phenomenon to achieve semantic, aesthetic, and artistic purposes through it. As a form of (syntactic deviation), it serves rhetorical and explanatory functions, granting the creator uniqueness and distinction when shaping his constructions, sentences, and texts in a manner that breaks the horizon of expectation of the recipient (both direct and indirect). This serves those texts intellectually and aesthetically.

This phenomenon was manifested in the work of AL-Tughraii an innovative poet who (lived in the 5th and 6th centuries AH/ 11th – 12th centuries CE), leaving its mark on his texts and enabling it to bestow upon them the characteristic of poeticity.

Accordingly, this research is divided into two aspects: A theoretical section that defines the research terms (poetics and Iltifat), and an applied section containing an analysis of selected examples from AL-Tughraii's poetry, wherein the occurrence of Iltifat played a pivotal role in endowing the verses with poeticity, achieving semantic richness and depth through the meanings it conveyed within its poetic context.
