this study aimed to identify students' attitudes toward using self-learning strategies in the first cycle of basic education, as well as to evaluate the effectiveness of the "Thinking Hand" strategy in developing self-learning skills in Arabic language at the primary level. The study employed a quasi-experimental and descriptive design. The experimental sample consisted of 30 male and female students, while the control sample also comprised 30 students, all from Anas Mahmoud Sanqar School in the city of Salamiyah, Hama Governorate, Syria. The study instruments were administered to the participants before and after the intervention, and the data were statistically analyzed.
The results of the study revealed positive attitudes among some students at Anas Mahmoud Sanqar School toward using self-learning strategies. The "Thinking Hand" strategy proved effective in increasing the scores of third-grade students in Arabic language compared to the traditional method, as demonstrated by the cognitive achievement test. Furthermore, teaching with this strategy significantly contributed to students' acquisition of self-learning skills, including: asking questions, identifying main and sub-ideas, and summarizing. The study recommended holding workshops for teachers to train them on the use of modern self-learning and teaching strategies.
