A public poll on the Radio Program Rule of Justice An exploratory study of a sample of the program listeners in Damascus
Abstract
Rule of Justice is one of the programs presented on Damascus Radio Station, which conveys a dramatic picture representing the real incidents that happen in the Syrian society and exist in the judiciary files. This research tries to get acquainted with the listeners’ opinions about the dramatic material related to the crime, that is presented through the weekly program, Rule of Justice. In addition, it tries to identify the positive and negative effects of the program on the society, most importantly including: the positive effect of raising the public awareness about murders to avoid them, as they are the most prominent type of crimes in the broadcasted material. On the other hand, the program is criticized for not tackling all the crimes that take place in the Syrian society, and accused of teaching crime and introducing criminals to the modern ways and instruments to commit it. The research suggests activating the role of media through programs discussing the crimes committed in Syria and the punishment of the convicts; in addition to paying more attention to all the crimes spreading in the Syrian society.
