Comparison of the Efficacy of some Reciprocating and Rotary Preparation Systems in Removing Filling Materials During Root Canal Retreatment

Abstract

Aim: Evaluating the effectiveness of Wave One Gold,Wave One, and One Curve systems in removing endodontic filling material, and the effective time spent during endodontic retreatment of curved canals.

Materials and methods:

30 blocks wereprepared and filledwith gutta-percha using the single cone technique. After 14 days, the blocks weredividedintothree groups:

Group (1): 10 blocks, Wave One system was used to remove endodontic filling material.

Group (2): 10 blocks, Wave One Gold system was used to remove endodontic filling material.

Group (3): 10 blocks, One Curve system was used to remove endodontic filling material. These systems were then evaluated through the degree of residual endodontic filling material and the effective time spent to remove the canal filling. The blocks were processed and studied using the Auto CAD-2007-2008 program.

Results: Wave One Gold system provided less residual endodontic filling volume in the curved canals than One Curve system throughout the entire canal and in the middle third, The Wave One system showed no differences from the Wave One Gold and One Curve.

When using One Curve, the operator spent significantly less effective time than when using Wave One Gold andWave One.

Conclusions: Wave One Gold reciprocating files presented better ability in removing endodntic filling material in comparison with One Curve system incurvedcanals. The effective time spent in One Curve was shorter thanWave One and Wave One Gold
