Abstract

The use of lightweight sandwich elements in engineering structures requires the availability of a basic database of the mechanical and physical specifications of their components in order to adjust the structural design standards for tension, compression, and shear, taking into account the limits of accompanying deformations during the investment lifespan.

This research paper seeks to highlight the effect of the density of the core of locally produced sandwich panels with two metal coating layers on the elasticity coefficients of this polyurethane core, and the level of tensile stresses that can be subjected to without compromising the functional performance of these elements as a result of the local deformations that accompany the application of these stresses and the resulting collapse patterns of these panels.

It has been possible, through analyzing the experimental results obtained in this research in conjunction with the relevant results of previous research, to understand this effect of core density in a simplified form for practical applications that include some of these requirements, The quality of the adhesive between the core and the board's covering layer plays a key role in the degree to which this core can withstand tensile stresses, and in determining the board's failure pattern between the creasing of the covering layer or the shear failure of the core.
