The Impact of the Use of Artificial Intelligence on International Relations and Its Role in Global Power Transformations

Abstract

This research aims to explore the emerging and concept of the term artificial intelligence (AI) and its types, in addition to reviewing the areas of application of AI technologies in international relations. The research also addresses the global index of AI and the impact of its applications on international relations, its role in global power shifts, as well as future challenges and opportunities associated with its applications in this context. The research was based on the descriptive analytical method, and reached a set of results, the most prominent results of which are: The increasing importance of AI in economic and political relations among countries, as its applications contribute effectively to enhancing international cooperation. The AI Index is considered an important measure of countries’ ability to develop and use technology in various sectors, as major global powers compete to rely on AI as a part of technological progress. The United States of America and China lead the global in this field, while the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia ranks first at the Arab level, which indicates a noticeable disparity in the capabilities of countries in this field. The technological capabilities of countries in this field have led to noticeable changes in the global balance of power. Leading countries in the areas of research and development, such as the United States and China, have advanced capabilities that allow them to exercise their influence and demonstrate their power. The research recommended that all countries, especially Arab countries, pay special attention to the development of AI to enhance their economy and position internationally and regionally, and develop effective strategies to adapt to global transformations caused by the rapid development of AI technology.
