Evaluating the Efficacy of some modern compounds  (abamectin, spinosad and fenpyroxymet) in controlling the mite Tetranychus urticae Koch (Acari: Tetranychidae) on strawberry in greenhouses

Abstract

The two-spotted spider mite Tetranychus urticae Koch (Tetranychidae) is a serious and widespread pest affecting a broad range of plant hosts in greenhouses. While synthetic pesticides have been widely used to control this pest, their negative effects on human health and environment, along with associated resistance problems, increased the demand for naturally occurring pesticides and molting inhibitors. In this context, this study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of abamectin, spinosad, and fenpyroxymet against T.urticae on strawberry crop under greenhouse conditions.

The results showed that the lowest hatching rate was with the abamectin compound (8.88%), while it was 35.55% and 13.33% with spinosad and fenpyroxymet respectively.

In addition, the compounds abamectin and fenpyroxymet have good efficacy against the studied mite stages, as the initial effect after 24h reached 35.55 and 8.88% against protonymphs, and 35.55 and 2.22% against the adult females, and the killing rate reached the maximum limit of 100% seven days after treatment. In contrast, to the standard control with chemical pesticide (Azocyclotin) achieved the maximum effect of 100% four days after treatment in greenhouse.
