Abstract

Oil and its derivatives are among the most significant environmental pollutants today, and diesel fuel is a common environmental pollutant.  Two types of bacteria were isolated from diesel-contaminated soil at fuel filling stations (Salhab). The bacterial isolates were characterized based on their culture and morphological features on differential media, purified using simple and orthogonal streaking, and stained with Gram stain, in addition to some biochemical characteristics. This was done during an incubation period of  24-72 hours at 37°C. The results showed the isolation of two types of bacilli: (A1) Pseudomonas putida, which is Gram-negative, positive for catalase, oxidase, and lactose, and negative for maltose, mannose, and sucrose , (A2) Bacillus subtilis, which is Gram-positive, positive for catalase and glucose, and negative for oxidase, sucrose, and maltose.
