Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate the antifungal activity of ethanolic extracts from eight plant species  Salvia officinalis L,  Equisetum arvensel L, Laurus nobilis L, Punica granatum L, Dittrichia viscosa, Mentha piperita, Foeniculum vulgare  and Nigella Sativa L in inhibiting the growth of three spesies of Aspergillus, A.niger, A. flavus and A. terreus in three concentrations 5%, 10% and 15%)  added to the PDA medium in vitro.

The results showed that all of  the tested extracts in all concentrations inhibited in vary proportions growth of the tested fungies, there were  significant differences between  the different concentrations of each extract (LSD at 1% )¸ And the inhibition percentage increased proportionally with the increase in concentration, reaching its highest possible value at 15% concentration, The inhibition percentage ranged between 63.33% ( M. piperita against A. niger) and 100% (E. arvensel and N. Sativa against A. flavus and A. terreus.

The research concluded the possibility of using these plnt extrcts, especially E. arvensel and N. Sativa as promising natural alternatives to synthetic fungicides.
